A driving force behind our success is that we’re always using data to understand what it is our customers want, and helping our internal teams ensure that we’re building products and systems to meet / exceed those demands.

Which is a great segue to the role we have available, a Data Scientist, who would be joining our customer interactions team and would be responsible for establishing and developing ING’s advanced analytics capability.

We’re looking for someone who has a deep understanding of data exploration, analysis, and development of insights, with a focus specifically relating to automated decision making through machine learning. If you want to work at a place where we believe that you can make a difference by using machine learning to generate data driven products and solve the most pressing data challenges, then this role is definitely one you shouldn’t miss!

What are you going to do? You will…

  • Develop and enhance ING’s data science and machine learning environment to improve business outcomes.
  • Build advanced analytics foundation and capability by working in conjunction with data engineers and developers to drive advanced analytics infrastructure projects.
  • Perform comprehensive advanced analytics to understand / solve business opportunities / issues and understand / optimise customers, their usage and behaviour.
  • Evaluate and implement advanced analytics tools (e.g. Python)
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis to key stakeholders.
  • Represent ING Australia on advanced analytics projects with the global advanced analytics unit.
  • Mentor other members in the ING analytics community on more advanced analytical techniques.

What are we looking for? Someone who has…

  • Demonstrated expertise in using analytical tools such as R, Python, SAS and SQL. We use all of these, so the more of those, the better.
  • A bit of experience, using statistical methods and in advanced machine learning techniques. If you haven’t, you should at a minimum know how machine learning works, and the principles.
  • Exposure to Machine Learning in cloud computing environments (GCP) and Big Data will be an advantage.
  • Some exposure to project management principles
  • Bachelor's / or Master’s in Analytical disciplines (Data Science, Econometrics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Studies). But if you have the relevant work experience, a formal qualification isn’t essential.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical and research skills, with a strong attention to detail.

If you meet a number of the requirements, but not all, we encourage you to submit your application.
